The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a thane resident for allegedly sharing classified information about restricted areas with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media platforms.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a thane resident for allegedly sharing classified information about restricted areas with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media platforms.
According to an official statement the ATS, received confidential intelligence inputs indicating that the suspect had been in contact with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). A detailed inquiry revealed that the accused established contact via Facebook in November 2024. Over the following months until March 2025 the individual allegedly shared sensitive information about government-restricted areas using WhatsApp.
Following the investigation, the ATS registered a case at its Thane Police Station under Sections 3(1)(b) and 5(a) of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, as well as Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The charges pertain to the unlawful sharing of confidential information and compromising national security.

In total, three individuals, including the main suspect, have been booked in connection with the case. The primary accused is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway.
