Justice Anant Badar Appointed Maharashtra SHRC Chairman After Three-Month Vacancy

After a wait of three months, the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) finally has its new leadership. Retired Patna High Court judge Justice Anant Badar has been appointed as the chairman of the SHRC, while Justice Swapna Joshi will serve as a member. Pradeep Kumar Dange has taken charge as the secretary of the commission.

The appointment process concluded in a meeting held on September 26, 2023, where justice Anant Manohar Badar was unanimously selected as the chairman.

Born on August 10, 1961, justice Badar started his legal career in 1985 at the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court. He later joined the Maharashtra Judicial Service as a district judge in November 2000. Over the years, he held key judicial positions, including his appointment as additional judge of the Bombay High Court on March 3, 2014. He was subsequently transferred to the Kerala High Court and later to the Patna High Court in May 2020, where he served until his retirement. Justice Badar will join the office on March 3, a close source in SHRC confirmed.
