Hours after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) volunteers allegedly attacked his Worli office over his anti-Marathi remarks, high-profile investor and mentor Sushil Kedia issued a public apology on X to MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
In a surprising turn of events, Kedia praised Thackeray, calling him a “hero” and admitted that he was not in the right frame of mind when he posted critical comments about the MNS leader and the Marathi language.
Following the attack, Kedia posted an apology on X. “Having come under pressure mentally from the violence inflicted on those who do not know Marathi, I ended up overreacting, I realized I must take back my overreactions and withdraw.”
He also said, "I have always had a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Raj Thackeray for the strong issues he raises, for the strength with which he stands up for issues concerning all of us, he's always been a hero, but this time when our own people have been loggerheads with each other, my mind went haywire."
“I've been a fan, an ardent follower was regularly positively tweeted about him, but this kind of a situation where our own are hurting our own I aired completely in my emotional overreactions," he added.
Kedia, who had earlier taken a defiant stand against learning Marathi, had posted several messages on X challenging Thackeray and accusing the MNS of intimidating non-Marathi speakers.
His posts sparked outrage, leading to an attack on his office in Worli on Saturday. The controversy began when Kedia reacted to an incident in Mira Road where MNS workers allegedly assaulted a farsan seller for not speaking Marathi.
In protest, Kedia had publicly declared that he would never learn Marathi as long as the MNS used threats to impose the language. However, following the attack on his office and growing public attention, Kedia appears to have softened his stance.
