Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed a major infrastructure milestone as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Phase 2A of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 on May 9. The newly operational stretch runs from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and senior officials, marks another step toward enhancing connectivity in the city. Passenger services on this segment will begin on Saturday, May 10, at 6:00 AM, according to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).
Mumbai Metro Line 3 is the city's first fully underground metro corridor. Once complete, it will span 33.5 kilometers, linking Colaba in South Mumbai to SEEPZ in the north, with 27 stations along the route. Key stations in the newly opened 9.77 km stretch include Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. A notable engineering feat in this phase is the segment between Dharavi and BKC, which tunnels beneath the Mithi River.
Previously, the first phase, a 12.69 km stretch from Aarey JVLR to BKC, had already been operational. With the addition of Phase 2A, only the final 13 km section from Worli to Cuffe Parade remains under construction as part of Phase 3.

Although the civil work was completed in March, the commencement of services awaited safety certification, which has now been granted. With this, another vital metro link is ready to ease Mumbai’s traffic woes and offer faster, safer commutes.
