Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated his content over NIA detaining 26/11 Mumbai Attacks mastermind Tahawwur Rana on April 10. He expressed that he is content over the detention of the mastermind behind Mumbai's terror attack on November 26, 2008. He ensured that the conspirator is now in custody and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is actively investigating. He also thanked Prime Minister Modi on behalf of Mumbaikars that the conspirator has been brought to India to face the Indian judicial system.

In the press conference held on Friday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that, "I am very happy that the accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and one of the conspirators, Tahawwur Rana, has been brought to India. I thank Prime Minister on behalf of Mumbaikars that the conspirator has been brought to India to face the Indian judicial system. It was a burden on us that Kasab was executed as per law, but the conspirator was not in our custody... He is with NIA now, and they are investigating the case. Now, the NIA will take calls about the investigation and legal procedures to be followed. Whatever information we need, we will take from NIA, and if they need any assistance, we will do so through Mumbai Police," according to report by ANI.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) successfully brought back Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the key figure behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. His extradition came after extensive attempts to secure justice for the 2008 assaults that resulted in 166 fatalities and over 238 injuries.

A designated flight with Rana landed at Palam Airport in Delhi this evening. In US judicial custody, Rana's extradition process began under the India-US Extradition Treaty after he had utilized all legal options to stay in the United States.

On May 16, 2023, the Central District Court of California approved his extradition; however, Rana engaged in several legal actions in the Ninth Circuit and filed petitions with the U.S. Supreme Court, all of which were rejected.

The successful extradition required cooperation among the NIA, the US Department of Justice, and multiple Indian intelligence agencies, supported by India's Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs. Rana collaborated with David Coleman Headley and members of the terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami to carry out the attacks, which the Indian government has classified as terrorist groups under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967.
