The much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIA) is set to be inaugurated in June, with commercial operations expected to commence a month later. The airport, which is being developed by Adani Group, is progressing rapidly towards completion.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visited the airport site along with his family to review the project’s progress. Accompanying him were Dr Priti Adani, Jeet Adani, and Diva Adani, along with senior officials, including Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, and Capt BVJK Sharma, CEO of Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd.
“A glimpse into India’s aviation future! Visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport site today – a world-class airport taking shape. Set for inauguration this June, it will redefine connectivity & growth. A true gift to India!,” Adani said in a post on X. “Kudos to the Adani Airports team & partners for making this vision a reality,” he added.
Representatives from partner companies and key stakeholders were also present during the visit, said the NMIA spokesperson.
The NMIA is expected to transform connectivity and economic growth in the region, serving as a critical gateway for domestic and international travel.

A spokesperson from NMIA said, “The project is on a fast-track course for completion, and once operational, it will redefine connectivity and growth in the region.”
Once completed, NMIA will serve as Mumbai's second major airport, easing congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and enhancing Maharashtra's air travel infrastructure.
“The date for the inauguration is yet to be finalised, but as of now, it is to happen in June. The date will be finalised depending on the development,” said an official source.
The NMIAL has applied for an aerodrome licence to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is in the process. NMIA, with two runways and four terminals, will have a capacity to cater to 90 million passengers per annum once all five phases of the projects are completed.
In February 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the new airport, coming up at an investment of Rs16,700 crore, to meet the soaring demand for air travel in the country.
