Ganeshotsav Protests On Mumbai–Goa Highway Demand Urgent Safety Measures |
The Mumbai–Goa Highway Public Protest Committee has announced a series of Ganeshotsav celebrations along the highway, demanding urgent safety measures to prevent further road accident deaths.
According to the committee, over 4,500 Konkan residents have died in highway accidents, prompting the decision to hold religious programmes at various points on the route under the banner “Stop – Death Ahead.”
The initiative began with a foundation-laying ceremony on August 10 at Palaspe Phata, Panvel, and is stated to continue with Maha Aarti events across Konkan towns including Lanja, Poladpur, Ratnagiri, Lonere, Sangameshwar, Mananav, Chiplun, Indapur, Nagothane, and Pahane.
The campaign will conclude on September 6 with a Maha Aarti and immersion at the Chief Minister’s residence in Mumbai.
Organisers said the highway celebrations are intended to draw the government’s attention to the dangerous conditions on the route and press for immediate safety upgrades.
