Mumbai: To encourage a greener Ganeshotsav, the BMC is providing sculptors with free shadu clay, eco-friendly paint, and dedicated spaces for idol-making. Each administrative zone is allocated 100 tons of clay, with additional supplies made available based on local demand. As of now, the BMC has distributed an impressive 910 tons of clay to 487 registered artisans across the city.

In 2024, the BMC distributed over 500 tons of free shadu clay to more than 200 artisans. Building on this momentum, 2025 has seen a surge in demand starting as early as April.

To support sculptors, the BMC is also providing two to three free temporary sheds per ward on a first-come, first-served basis for idol crafting. So far, mandap permits have been issued to 993 eco-friendly idol makers citywide.
