New Delhi: Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), recently criticized the Indian government's handling of trade relations with the United States, particularly regarding the recent tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods.

Thackeray expressed his concerns during a media conference in New Delhi, questioning the government's silence on Trump's remarks. "Donald Trump is mocking our country every day... We are not even answering him verbally. Who is really running the country's government?" Thackeray asked, emphasizing the need for a strong stance.

Thackeray stated that Trump's tariffs on Indian goods are a matter of concern, and the government should take a strong stance against such policies. He emphasized that the common man will be affected by these tariffs and questioned the government's ability to protect India's interests. The Indian government has responded to Trump's tariffs by stating that it will take necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and has engaged in talks with the US to address trade issues and negotiate a bilateral trade agreement.

Uddhav Thackeray On India's Foreign Policy

Thackeray also criticized the government's foreign policy, stating that "this government has failed miserably in terms of foreign policy." He questioned the government's relations with China, asking if these relations "also open doors for their friend?" Additionally, Thackeray raised questions about the Vice President's sudden resignation and their current whereabouts, suggesting that this should be discussed during state elections.

The US has imposed additional tariffs on Indian goods, citing India's purchase of Russian oil. India has responded by calling these tariffs "unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable". Thackeray's remarks reflect the opposition's criticism of the government's handling of international relations and trade agreements. The government's response to Trump's tariffs has been criticised for being inadequate, and Thackeray's comments highlight the need for a stronger stance to protect India's interests.

Uddhav Thackeray On VVPAT

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader further criticised the Election Commission, particularly regarding the use of VVPAT machines and EVMs. Thackeray questioned the logic of holding elections if VVPATs are used, saying, "If you are going to conduct VVPATs, why do you hold elections?" When asked about Eknath Shinde, Thackeray dismissed him, stating, "I don't value the opinions of traitors... A traitor is a traitor, so I don't value the opinions of traitors."Thackeray's comments come amid heightened tensions between India and the US over trade policies.
