Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray has made strong claims about problems in the voter system. He said that the Election Commission is not being honest with the people and should take responsibility for mistakes.
Speaking recently, Thackeray cited examples from across the country to underscore the alleged manipulation: “In Varanasi, there is a person who has had 34 children in 16 years; you do the math. In Palghar, there is a woman who has five voter cards, Minta Devi, who is 124 years old.”
He further alleged:
“We have been talking about this vote theft, and now, after being caught, the Election Commission is running away. The Election Commission is scared. We will only say — don't be afraid, come forward and admit that you were doing manipulation until now, and you won't do it anymore.”
Election Commission Issues Notice To Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi Over Alleged Dual Voter ID Cards
In yet another development questioning the integrity of India’s electoral system, the Election Commission has served a notice to Muzaffarpur mayor and BJP leader Nirmala Devi over allegations of possessing two voter ID cards. The notice, issued on Wednesday, comes after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav publicly accused the mayor earlier in the day.
An official confirmed the action, stating,
“The EC sent a notice to Nirmala Devi, asking her to submit a reply to the poll panel over the issue of possessing two voter ID cards.”
The matter has been formally taken up by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the Muzaffarpur assembly constituency, who has asked Devi to respond to the allegations by August 16, as reported by news agency PTI.
