The traffic has been delayed by around one hour on Sion-Panvel Highway and Thane-Belapur Road due to the ongoing Coldplay concert at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Nerul, Navi Mumbai. The slow moving traffic is as a result of the globally renowned band performing as part of their 'Music of the Spheres World Tour,' drawing an estimated 45,000 attendees daily on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. This massive turnout has significantly impacted traffic flow in the surrounding areas.
Of the total population coming to witness the concert, around 15% is the only crowd that is from Mumbai. Even as private buses and exclusive train has been arranged for the people coming for the concert, the out of station public is expected to reach the venue by private vehicles.
An advocate coming back from CBD Belapur court was stuck in traffic at Uran Phata for close to half an hour. “Even with the presence of police, the traffic was immense as the parking facility for the concert was also nearby,” the advocate said. Another lady from Nerul whose kids go for tuitions at sector 5 in Nerul said that the classes were called off since the roads leading to the sector were blocked due to the concert.
To reduce the amount of traffic, there has been traffic diversions, parking bans made by NAvi Mumbai traffic department:
Heavy Vehicle Restrictions:
To reduce congestion, the Navi Mumbai Police have prohibited heavy vehicles from entering the city between 2 PM and 11 PM on concert days. Heavy Vehicles traveling from Uran, Nhava Sheva, Pune, Thane, and Mumbai are affected by this measure.
No-Parking Zones:
Key areas, including the LP Bridge Signal to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and Shani Mandir Arch to Bhimashankar Chowk, have been declared no-parking zones. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes for smoother travel.
Alternative Routes:
Drivers are advised to take the Nerul Station Road to Shivaji Chowk and proceed via Palm Beach Road to avoid high-traffic areas.
Besides, Bookmyshow has also made transportation provisions for those who are visiting the concert. Special train services have been arranged for concertgoers, including return trips, to ease travel and minimize the need for personal vehicles. Private bus operators, including Cityflo, are offering services to ferry attendees to and from the venue. Detailed instructions have been shared with ticket holders based on their locations. Designated pickup and drop-off zones for ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber, along with private taxis, have been set up at Raheja Universal and Mindspace and Bhimashankar Ground to streamline attendee movement.
