Bombay Scottish School Case: Key Medical Tests Completed For Teacher Accused Of Sexual Assault; Lookout Circular Issued For UK-Based Co-Accused

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have completed the psychological and physical medical examinations of Bipasha Kumar, 40, a former teacher at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, accused of luring a 16-year-old student into a purported relationship and engaging in sexual relations with him. Police investigations have revealed that Bipasha sought medical attention prior to motherhood, prompting inquiries with her husband, who works for an aviation company, to understand the dynamics of their relationship.

Police have arrested Bipasha Kumar and, after four days in custody, a court on Thursday remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody. Efforts are underway to apprehend her friend, Dr. Shomita Banerjee, who is believed to have aided her in the crime.

Dr. Banerjee has been residing in the United Kingdom (UK) since last Diwali.

Authorities are attempting to establish contact her via email and through diplomatic channels. Concurrently, police have initiated the process to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the doctor, an official said.

Dr. Shomita Banerjee is accused of counseling the boy, who was under stress due to sexual exploitation, to persuade him to have physical relations with the accused teacher, Bipasha Kumar, and providing him with Daxid 50mg tablets to alleviate his stress.

The accused teacher, Bipasha Kumar, is alleged to have sexually exploited the victim between January 24, 2024, and February 28, 2025. This allegedly occurred in a car, specifically near Kirti College to Saraswat Colony footpath, and at three hotels JW Marriott in Juhu, President Hotel in Vile Parle, and The Lalit Hotel.

She is also accused of consuming alcohol herself and serving it to the victim before the sexual acts. Both medical and psychological examinations of the accused woman have been done. Additionally, the victim boy has also undergone a medical examination and his statement will soon be recorded before the court, an official said.

Police have thoroughly interrogated the accused teacher and seized and verified her mobile phone. The accused teacher claimed to police that she joined the school during the COVID-19 pandemic and later left due to low salary. A police officer stated that after leaving her school job, she was working as a content writer.

The Police have written to Bombay Scottish School requesting information about the child's academic details, as well as information regarding the accused teacher's joining and resignation from the school. They are also checking whether any other students have filed complaints against this teacher previously.

Additionally, police are now questioning the management of JW Marriott, President Hotel, and The Lalit Hotel to collect evidence related to the crime. Police are also investigating the clothes and regular gifts given to the boy by the accused teacher, as well as meals at expensive places.

On June 28, Dadar Police have registered a case under sections 123, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, along with sections 4, 6, 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
