Mumbai: The BJP-Mahayuti government is fully committed to the progress of farmers, promotion of the dairy industry, and strengthening of the cooperative movement, asserted BJP State President Ravindra Chavan. He was speaking at the Walva Shirala Co-operative Dairy Ltd., Rethedharan, Taluka Walva’s newly elected directors’ ceremony and milk producers’ farmers’ meet, held at the Indira Palace Hall today.

BJP Legislative Party Leader MLA Pravin Darekar urged Chavan to explore ways to strengthen the Konkan region’s economy through cooperative principles similar to those in Western Maharashtra.

The event was attended by Darekar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, senior leader Annasaheb Dange, MLAs Sadabhau Khot, Suresh Khade, and Satyajit Deshmukh, Vice Chairperson of Sangli District Cooperative Bank Jayashree Patil, BJP Western Maharashtra Organisation Minister Makrand Deshpande, former MLA Bhagwanrao Salunkhe, Jansurajya Party State President Samit Kadam, BJP District President and event convenor Samrat Mahadik, Sangli Bank Director Rahul Mahadik, along with a large number of cooperative sector workers.

Chavan noted that since its inception in 2021, the dairy initiative in the region has grown steadily, with farmers from three talukas adopting it as a supplementary business. Currently, 120–130 milk collection centers across these talukas collect over 40,000 liters daily. He praised Samrat Mahadik and his team for giving the region a unique economic dimension through the cooperative.

“Every sector will contribute towards taking Maharashtra towards a $1 trillion economy in the coming years, with farmers playing a pivotal role. Countries like Brazil and Germany have developed economies heavily dependent on milk production. By adopting new technology, they have maximized production and exported not just milk but dairy products worldwide, creating economic revolutions. The governments at both the state and central levels, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, will firmly support you,” Chavan assured the gathering.
