Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) has intensified its investigation after arresting seven men from Mira Road with illegal weapons. Just two days earlier, five others were arrested in a similar arms seizure operation in Cotton Green. According to sources, all 12 accused are allegedly connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar.

Police are now probing whether the arrested accused had any role in a larger extortion plot targeting Bollywood comedian Kapil Sharma. Investigators are exploring if the accused were in Mumbai as part of a conspiracy linked to an extortion attempt or attack on Sharma's residence. Sources confirm that the accused are being questioned to establish any direct link to the suspected plot.

The developments come just hours after a second round of gunfire was reported outside Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada. In a chilling video circulating on social media, nearly 25 gunshots can be heard, accompanied by a voice saying:

"... We had called the target, but he didn't hear the ring, so we had to take action. If he still doesn't hear the ring, the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai."

Two gangs — one led by Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon, and the other by Lawrence Bishnoi — have reportedly claimed responsibility for the Canada attack via social media. Preliminary information suggests the motive behind the Canadian shooting may be linked to an extortion demand.

The arrested accused in Mumbai have been remanded to police custody, and investigators are now examining their digital footprints, call data records, and possible links to overseas gang networks. The possibility of a coordinated extortion racket with international connections is not being ruled out, say sources in the Mumbai Police.

As security concerns mount, Kapil Sharma has yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, authorities are on high alert in Mumbai to prevent any untoward incident.

In the Baba Siddique murder case, the  wanted accused and main conspirator Shubham Lonkar has surfaced in a recent social media post viral after firing on Kapil Sharma's Cafe in Canada.
