Bhiwandi Accident: Woman And 7-Year-Old Nephew Killed By Speeding Truck Near IGM Hospital

A 30-year-old woman and her seven-year-old nephew died after being struck by a speeding truck in Bhiwandi on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Sony Banoo and her brother’s son, Abdul Siddique Ansari, both residents of Bhiwandi.
The incident occurred on Bhiwandi-Kalyan Road near the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Sony had taken her nephew to visit her cousin’s brother, who had been admitted to the hospital. As they were walking near the hospital gate, a truck ran them over.
According to the police, the truck driver was driving recklessly while heading to Thane from Bhiwandi. The woman and child came under the rear wheel of the truck, sustaining severe injuries. Locals rushed to the spot and found Sony lying in a pool of blood. They immediately alerted the police.
Both victims were rushed to the nearby IGM Hospital, where Sony was declared dead on arrival. The child, who was in critical condition, was shifted to Thane Civil Hospital for further treatment but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
An FIR has been registered against the driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police Sub-Inspector Jeevan Mhaske from Nizampura Police Station said, “The truck has been seized, and the driver, identified as Raju Kalge (30), was apprehended. He was later produced in court. We are investigating to determine how the two deceased came under the wheels of the truck. We will be scanning CCTV footage and recording the statements of witnesses.
