Meghalaya: A chilling new twist has emerged in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, with a video featuring the Indore couple trekking together in Meghalaya, just hours before Raja was allegedly killed by his wife and her accomplices. The video, recorded by a fellow tourist visiting the double-decker root bridge in Meghalaya, shows Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi hiking the scenic trail around 9:45 am. The person who shared the video on Instagram wrote, “I travelled to Meghalaya on 23rd May 2025 and recorded videos… I found the couple in one clip. They were going up the trail after staying the night in Nongriat village.” He added that Sonam was seen wearing the same white shirt later found near Raja’s body. “I think this was the last recording of the couple,” he wrote, expressing hope that the footage aids the investigation.
The couple had arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20, just days after their May 11 wedding in Indore. Their disappearance on May 23 had sparked a state-wide search.
Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge on June 2. Sonam was later traced to Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, from where she was arrested on June 9. She initially claimed she had been drugged and abandoned, but police said she had surrendered. During interrogation, Sonam allegedly confessed to plotting her husband’s murder with her lover, Raj Kushwaha.
Kushwaha and three alleged hitmen were subsequently arrested. All accused have been handed over to Meghalaya Police for further investigation. Meanwhile, the families of both Sonam and Raja have demanded capital punishment for those involved in the brutal killing.
