Nature lovers and trekkers, get ready! The iconic Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand has officially opened for its 2025 season. Starting June 1 and open until October 31 (weather permitting), this Himalayan gem is now welcoming visitors eager to witness its monsoon magic. Nestled in the Chamoli district, the Valley transforms into a botanical wonderland each year, covered with vibrant blooms, serene landscapes, and crisp mountain air.
Why is the Valley of Flowers so special?
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is truly unique. Each year, for just a few weeks between July and early September, the valley features over 600 species of alpine wildflowers, transforming into a colourful paradise.

The trek to the valley is also considered beginner-friendly, making it ideal for high-altitude hiking. Adding to its charm is the nearby Hemkund Sahib, a sacred Sikh pilgrimage site located beside a serene glacial lake. Furthermore, the area remains untouched by commercial development, with no shops, hotels, or vehicles, offering a peaceful and immersive escape into nature.
How to reach the Valley of Flowers
Travelling to the Valley of Flowers involves various options, including road travel and trekking. Here’s your step-by-step travel guide:
Nearest Airport: Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) – approx. 295 km from Govindghat. Taxis and buses are available from the airport.
Nearest Railway Station: Rishikesh – approx. 270 km from Govindghat. Regular buses and cabs connect the two.
By Road: Govindghat is the trek’s starting point, connected by road to Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.
Trek Route: Drive or take a shared cab from Govindghat to Pulna (4 km). From Pulna, trek 10 km to Ghangaria. The final leg is a 3.5 km hike from Ghangaria to the Valley of Flowers. Overnight stays are not permitted inside the park, so plan a same-day return.
