Sonam Kapoor Wears 'Kaala Gajra' Made By 10 Ladies In Her Hair At Dior’s Paris Haute Couture Show
A standout element of her look was a handcrafted black gajra, a striking and unconventional addition to her neatly pulled-back bun.

Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor, known for her impeccable fashion choices, made history as the first South Asian global ambassador for Christian Dior. She is often referred to as the fashion icon of the industry, and for a reason. Attending the prestigious French luxury house’s show at the ongoing Paris Couture Week, she turned heads in an all-black look, embodying elegance and high fashion.
Sonam chose a black mesh ensemble from Dior’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which she paired with a bold faux fur coat from their Resort 2025 collection. Her look was equally striking, pink on her lips and cheeks, a smoky eye, and sharp contour accentuated her features. Pearl chain earrings and statement earcuffs completed her accessories, adding a touch of glamour.
A unique Indian touch at the French show
A standout element of her look was a handcrafted black gajra, a striking and unconventional addition to her neatly pulled-back bun. The gajra was designed by Harshita Gautam, founder of Diaries of Nomad, at the request of Sonam’s stylist and sister, Rhea Kapoor.
“At first, you know, I found it very amusing – who wears black flowers in the hair?” Gautam told The Indian Express. She further detailed the process of creating the bespoke piece. “We took shankis, or shells, and covered them with handwoven chanderi. We made about 350 of those and tucked them on a silk rope, dhuri, and used motis to connect them. Ten ladies were engaged in making something like this over four days,” she shared.
Christian Dior & India
The evening wasn’t just about Sonam’s dazzling appearance. Christian Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, paid homage to India’s rich craft traditions by commissioning artist Rithika Merchant to create an immersive installation titled ‘The Flowers We Grew.’
The textile panels and paintings, embroidered under the direction of Karishma Swali by the Chanakya School of Craft, celebrated the powerful women in Chiuri’s family. The installation was unveiled during the Dior défilé in the garden of Musée Rodin, further deepening the brand’s Indian connect.
Fashionista who never misses
Sonam Kapoor’s presence at the event reaffirmed her status as a true fashion icon. Every detail of her look, from the couture ensemble to the thoughtfully crafted black gajra, showcased her ability to blend international high fashion with traditional Indian elements. Once again, she proved why she remains an undisputed force in the world of style and luxury.
