Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis' wife, Amruta Fadnavis, has landed in controversy after sharing a Friendship Day video featuring her pet Macaw parrot, Tiger. While her post celebrated interspecies bonding, the internet had mixed feelings.

In the video shared on her Instagram, Amruta is seen bonding with Tiger, a Macaw parrot she has kept as a pet for years. The caption read, “Friendship has no shape, size or language. It can happen between any species. Friendship is above all these things.”

The Macaw, originally from the Amazon region of South America, was reportedly brought to the Fadnavis household through a city breeder several years ago. The video aimed to show warmth, but it triggered an entirely different kind of reaction online.

Netizens call it out

Many social media users slammed the act of keeping an exotic bird in a domestic environment and demanded action from wildlife and animal rights organisations.

“Why parrots kept at home??? Send this parrot to Vantara,” wrote one user, echoing a sentiment repeated across dozens of comments. Another added, “Parrot’s place is in the open sky. Not in CM’s home. @petaindia Send this parrot to @vantara.”

The criticism kept pouring in, with several tagging animal welfare organisations. One comment read, “@petaindia @peta you took the elephant from Kolhapur, do you have the guts to release this bird out of the four walls?”

Another sarcastically quipped, “@vantara @vantarahorses where are you? Can’t you see this? @petaindia must be counting NOTA 💵.”
