Scene/Unseen: Mridul Chandra’s Artistic Ode To Hampi And Kochi
Exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, on till April 6, showcases captivating landscapes and evocative narratives of balance, grandeur, and spiritual energy

Rajendra Patil, President of The Bombay Art Society and Founder of India Art Festival, inaugurated an exhibition of Mridul Chandra at the Hirji Jehangir Gallery, first floor, Jehangir Art Gallery on March 31st.
Scene/Unseen, is a collection of oil and acrylic on canvas and water colours on paper. “It had been a long time since I had worked with water colours. It was a delight to work steadily and tediously to create different textures and hues on paper with the colours,” Chandra shared.
It was only the later stages, after the dates were finalised, that Chandra decided to work with oil n acrylic, her fave mediums. Her Bhiksha and Boulders series is an ode to her favourite place – Hampi. The three Bhiksha and Boulders paintings in oil n acrylic represent balance between giving and taking in a most unique manner.
Other works include small and big paintings in water colour, oil and acrylic picturising ships, temples, rivers etc. While most works depict Hampi, there are quite a few that have been inspired by Kochi harbour. “I found the big ships like skyscrappers on sea!” Chandra said. “Hampi, with its grandeur and spiritual energy, has always fascinated me, and I wanted to capture that essence on canvas. Seeing viewers resonate with those emotions has been truly fulfilling,” Chandra confessed.
The inauguration was attended by many art enthusiasts and artists like Kahini Arte-Merchant, Geetu Hinduja among others.
The exhibition will be on till April 6, 2025.
