The Dahi Handi celebration is soaring high in Mumbai this year, but the headlines don’t belong to the usual champions. Instead of the famed Jai Jawan Govinda Pathak, another Jogeshwari-based team named Konkan Nagar Govinda Pathak has created history with a never-before-seen 10-level human pyramid, leaving Mumbaikars awestruck.

Check out the visuals below:

Mumbai's record-breaking Dahi Handi celebration

Konkan Nagar Govinda Pathak's record-breaking feat unfolded in Thane’s Vartaknagar, where Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik’s Culture Youth Foundation hosted one of the grandest celebrations of the festival.

From early morning, Govinda squads across Mumbai and Thane gathered with hopes of scaling new heights, but it was Konkan Nagar who bagged the title on Saturday afternoon by stacking ten flawless layers and earning a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.

Meet the Konkan Nagar Govindas

Hailing from the Konkan Nagar area of Jogeshwari, the squad is led by 38-year-old coach Vivek Kochrekar, who has been training and guiding the team with discipline for over 12 years, as reported by Loksatta.

Known for their organised and precise approach to building pyramids, this group is one of the most respected Govinda squads in the locality.

Legacy of Jai Jawan Govinda Pathak

For the longest time, the Jai Jawan Govinda Pathak, also from Jogeshwari, has been viral with record-breaking pyramids. Back in 2012, they lifted the festival to global recognition by creating a nine-level tower, measuring 13.34 metres (43.79 feet), which earned them a Guinness World Record.

A decade later, Jai Jawan made headlines once again. In 2022, they scaled even higher, building a 50-foot pyramid that ended with a 14-year-old Govinda smashing the handi in a climactic finish.

This year, however, belongs to Konkan Nagar Govindas. Their ten-layer tower has set a new benchmark, creating a moment that once seemed impossible.
