Ashadha Gupt Navratri is a nine-day celebration focused on honouring Goddess Durga, particularly her more concealed or obscure aspects, during the Hindu month of Ashadha (June-July). It's named Gupt (which means secret or hidden) because the rituals and practices tend to be performed more discreetly.

This celebration honours the ten Mahavidyas, which are concealed manifestations of the goddess. In contrast to the popular Navratris that emphasise the nine primary forms of Durga, Gupt Navratri is focused on the ten Mahavidyas, which represent potent, hidden aspects of the goddess. According to Drik Panchang, Ashadha Gupt Navratri will be observed from Thursday, June 25, 2025.

About Ashadha Gupt Navratri

The auspicious festival is mostly observed in states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. During these nine days, devotees perform various rituals, chant Vedic mantras, and observe strict fasting. People wake up early, clean their homes, dress in traditional attire, and place Goddess Durga’s images on the altar.

Ashadha Gupta Navratri holds deep spiritual significance, and those observing it believe that the Goddess will grant their wishes. These nine days are an opportunity for devotees to immerse themselves in prayers, fasting, and devotion to Goddess Durga and her many forms. Ashadha Gupt Navratri, also known as Gupt Navratri, falls during the Ashadha month of the Hindu calendar, specifically during the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight).

Nine forms of Goddess Durga

The nine forms of the deity are as follows: Goddess Shailputri, Goddess Brahmacharini, Goddess Chandraghanta, Goddess Kushmanda, Goddess Skandamata, Goddess Katyayani, Goddess Kalaratri, Goddess Mahagauri, and Goddess Siddhidatri.

Puja Vidhi

On this auspicious day, devotees should wake up early and take a bath before Sunrise. Clean your home with Gangajal and wear neat and clean clothes. It is best to visit Goddess Durga temple on this day to seek blessings.

But if you can't visit the temple, you can worship the deity at home. Prepare an asan and put a clean cloth on it. Place the deity idol on it and light a lamp. Offer flowers, panchamrit, and bhog (kheer, fruits, and dry fruits). Recite Durga Saptashati, Goddess Durga mantra, and finally perform the goddess aarti.
