Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Minister and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya sparked a controversy with his bold comments against western dressing style preferred by the women in India. A viral video shows Vijayvargiya condemning the girls opting to wear short clothes, and using their dressing as a parameter to gauge female character.
"Mujhe kam kapde pehnne wali ladkiya achhi nahi lagti," (I don't like girls wearing short clothes). When they approach me for a selfie, I often tell them to go and dress decently," the minister said.
Vijayvargiya’s was addressing the public during a tree plantation programme organised at Sindoor Vatika in Nehru Park, Indore on the occasion of World Envrionment Day on Thursday.
Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava started the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.
Minister’s controversial statement stemmed from his reaction to the short speech given by BJP city president Sumit Mishra. He said that “Sumit said that today is the shortest speech of my life. He has given a very beautiful speech. One should always give a short speech.”
Continuing his address, Vijayvargiya connected politician’s 'short' speech with women's 'short' clothes. “There is a western saying, that a girl who wears short clothes is beautiful, similarly a leader who gives less speeches is also very good. There is such a saying abroad. I do not follow it. I do not believe in it. I believe that our women are the form of Goddess, they should wear good, decent clothes.”
He said, "If a girl dresses nicely, does her makeup well, wears elegant jewelry and beautiful clothes, she is appreciated in India. But abroad, the mindset is different, people there tend to admire those who wear less clothing. That's their perspective."
