Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a major step toward digitising higher education and easing the financial processes for students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all higher education institutions to implement online fee payment through UPI and QR codes from the coming academic session.
“The move is aimed at making the fee payment process simpler, more transparent and accessible,” said Prof Rajeev Dixit, director of college development council in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.
Till now, students, particularly those from colleges affiliated to DAVV, had to pay examination and academic fees via MP Online kiosks, often incurring extra service charges and making multiple trips to the college for verification.
“With this new system, students can now pay fees directly into their college’s bank account from the comfort of their homes,” said Dixit. “It aligns with the vision of Digital India and promotes a seamless and paperless process,” he added.
Most colleges across Madhya Pradesh, including in Indore, currently lack UPI fee payment systems.
Government college principals have welcomed the change, noting that the availability of unique UPI codes for each institution will particularly benefit students from rural and remote areas.
Private College Association president Dr Rajiv Jhalani praised the initiative, saying, “This will strengthen the Digital India mission and provide great convenience to students. With admissions around the corner, preparations to implement the system are already underway.”
