Indore (Madhya Pradesh): India did not want war and its mission is to become a developed nation by 2047, said Lieutenant General Jaswinder Singh Sindhu, former military secretary of India and ex-Commander of the 15 Corps, while addressing a gathering here on Sunday.

Speaking on the theme ‘Operation Sindoor: India’s Strength’ during a Devshri Narad Jayanti event, Lt Gen Sindhu highlighted how the Operation showcased India’s formidable military capabilities before the world.

He emphasised that though the world had an idea of India’s strength, it was Operation Sindoor that made global powers acknowledge it. “The terrorist attack in Pahalgam was a challenge to India and we responded decisively. Operation Sindoor was a complete success and our ceasefire is a diplomatic victory,” he said.

Singh made it clear that India’s intent was never to attack Pakistan, but when provoked by late night strikes, India had to retaliate. “Even now, India doesn’t seek war, but will respond to every aggression,” he asserted. He added that India had not ended the war, only halted it strategically.

He underlined India’s capability in terms of both manpower and weapons, adding that the real strength lay in technology and economy. “The powerful nations are those advancing economically and technologically and that is India’s path,” he said.

As for Pakistan, he said that though it possessed nuclear weapons, it knew India was also a nuclear power. He claimed the Pahalgam attack stemmed from internal pressures in Pakistan, including the improving situation in Kashmir post Article 370 abrogation, which Pakistan sought to disrupt.

Lt Gen Sindhu also praised the emerging role of women in the armed forces, noting that on Friday, India would see the graduation of its first all-women officers’ batch.

The event, held at SGSITS golden jubilee auditorium, was jointly organised by Vishwa samvad kendra, Malwa Prant, Indore Press Club, Renaissance University and Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya’s journalism department.

Senior AIR announcer Sudha Sharma coordinated the event. Distinguished guests included Indore Press Club president Arvind Tiwari, Renaissance’s Swapnil Kothari and journalism head Sonali
