Madhya Pradesh: People Shelving J&K Visit, Amarnath Yatra Plans

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): After the Pahalgam terror attack in which 27 tourists were killed and more than 20 people injured on Tuesday, a group of about 11 people here shelved their plans to visit the state. The number of people going to Amarnath also decreased in a day.

A private tour and travel company operator said that people were scared after the Pahalgam attack. It was the peak season for Kashmir visit and a group of 11 people was going from Ujjain, but after the incident, they cancelled the trip.

A group from Delhi had also made a booking but later cancelled it. “Now we are also advising people to not go to Kashmir. It is better to plan a trip to Himachal or the north-east,” he said.

Amarnath Yatra is starting from July 3 and Dinesh Sharma, who has been going to Amarnath with a group from Ujjain for the past many years, said that the booking started on April 14.

Till now, 20-25 people made inquiries every day, but after the incident not a single person had come for inquiry, he said. Most of the bookings were made through Pahalgam and some from Baltal. Now in the aftermath of the terror attack, people were scared to embark on the Yatra, he said.

'Arms have to be raised both for nation & religion'

Muni Vinamrasagar, currently seated in the Digambar Jain Panchayati Temple, said in his discourse on Thursday, “Now not only sympathy but determination is also required”. Quoting Tirthankar Adinath Bhagwan, he said that till the time arms were raised in self-defence, both religion and the nation would remain unsafe. Referring to four types of violence-- initial, industrial, oppositional and wilful-- he clarified that oppositional violence was within the limits of religion, but wilful violence was forbidden.

BDS conducts checking of trains, station premises

In view of the large number of devotees coming to Ujjain for religious visits, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) conducted intensive checking in trains going to Jammu and  Kashmir at the railway station here on Thursday.

In charge Ramesh Khade said that in the wake of the Pahalgam incident, all the coaches of the train going to Jammu and Kashmir, the luggage of the passengers and suspicious looking people were searched. No suspicious object was found in the investigation, but vigilance was being maintained for security.
