Madhya Pradesh: Five Arrested With Alcohol Worth ₹39,500 In Ujjain; Police Crack Down On Illegal Alcohol Trade
The police seized a total of 404 quarters of locally brewed alcohol and 42 beer cans. Under Section 34(2) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, the five accused have been formally charged.

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Ujjain Police have taken strict action against illegal alcohol sellers. On April 1, 2025, officers at Mahakaal Police Station arrested five individuals. The arrests were made for selling alcohol in violation of the state prohibition order. The illegal sale continued despite the government’s ban on alcohol in Ujjain, a city known for its religious significance.
The police seized a total of 404 quarters of locally brewed alcohol and 42 beer cans. The total estimated value of the seized alcohol was ₹39,500. Under Section 34(2) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, the five accused have been formally charged.
Following the government’s prohibition order effective from today, Ujjain police have stepped up efforts to enforce the ban on alcohol sales in the city. Police Chief Inspector Narendra Bahadur Parihar has directed all police stations to carry out intensive checks across Ujjain. This decisive move led to the arrest of five individuals accused of illegally selling alcohol despite the statewide ban.
The arrested include Ramesh, a 50-year-old resident of Gonsa in Bherugad; Kamalabai, also 50 and from the same locality; Prince, a 22-year-old from Nikas Chowk; Sandeep, a 30-year-old from Mullapura; and Ganesh, also known as Ganna Maali, from Bhookhi Mata Chowk. Authorities highlighted that Sandeep has four prior criminal records, while Ganesh has eight. Senior officers, led by Inspector Parihar, played a pivotal role in the operation, ensuring that strict measures were implemented swiftly and effectively.
