Madhya Pradesh: Congress Party Stages Symbolic Sit-In To Highlight Civic Issues, Law & Order Arrangements In Ujjain |
Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): City is lying in a state of disrepair—dilapidated roads, deteriorating law and order, scarcity of drinking water, and even the water that is available is contaminated. Incidents of theft, robbery, murder, and rape are becoming alarmingly frequent.
The traffic system has collapsed, with regular road blockades adding to the chaos. Despite being the hometown of the Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the residents are deprived of even the most basic civic amenities.
In protest against the BJP’s failing “triple engine” government, which has allegedly proven ineffective in addressing the city’s woes, the Ujjain City and District Congress Committee jointly organised a sit-in demonstration at Gopal Mandir on Saturday. Congress leaders vociferously raised the pressing issues facing the city.
The protest, led by City Congress Committee president Mukesh Bhati, continued undeterred even amidst heavy rainfall. Prominent Congress leaders including Kamal Patel, Dr Batuk Shankar Joshi, Manohar Bairagi, Ravi Rai, Ajit Singh Thakur and others took part in the demonstration.
They highlighted the poor state of law and order, the supply of contaminated drinking water, and the inflated electricity bills, demanding immediate redressal.

Bhati stated that farmers across Ujjain and the entire state of Madhya Pradesh are facing severe hardships due to a shortage in the availability of fertilisers. He further warned of the increasing grip of drug addiction among the youth, which is giving rise to antisocial activities in both Ujjain and other parts of the state.
The city’s roads are in a deplorable condition, leading to frequent accidents. Deep potholes get filled with rainwater, making commuting extremely difficult. Despite exorbitant electricity charges, residents do not receive an adequate power supply, with frequent outages sparking public anger.
Bhati also raised concerns over the Narmada water project, alleging that despite crores of rupees being spent, the city still lacks sufficient water supply. The drinking water that is supplied is often contaminated.
The Congress leaders demanded a rollback of the increased property tax imposed by the Ujjain Municipal Corporation. Another key concern raised was the suspension of BPL ration card issuance for families living under the poverty line. The Congress demanded that the process be resumed without delay.
