Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): Divisional commissioner Deepak Singh has suspended Dr Suresh Katara, the former Block Medical Officer in Petlawad, Jhabua district, effective immediately.

This decision comes after reports of negligence in implementing government health schemes and inappropriate behaviour during official meetings.

The suspension follows a meeting in February, where the District Health Committee reviewed various health programmes. During the meeting, discrepancies in the number of Ayushman cards issued in Petlawad were discussed.

Dr Katara failed to provide satisfactory answers and behaved disruptively, which was deemed unacceptable for a government official.

Dr Katara had previously received a show-cause notice due to his poor work performance in the Petlawad development block. His irresponsible actions created obstacles in reviewing departmental schemes, hindering the government's efforts to achieve desired outcomes. Despite multiple warnings from senior officials, there was no improvement in his conduct.

A four-member investigation team was formed to look into his work, which revealed instances of indiscipline and financial irregularities. Based on their findings, the collector recommended disciplinary action to the divisional commissioner.

Following this recommendation, commissioner Deepak Singh has suspended Dr Katara and he will now report to the collector office in Jhabua.

Kishan Lal reported that Garwal was demanding Rs 5,000 to provide a demarcation panchnama and was refusing to issue it without the bribe. After verifying the complaint, the Lokayukta police confirmed its validity.

A trap was set up and patwari Garwal was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The operation involved a team led by DSP Rajesh Pathak, along with inspector Hina Dabar and other officers.

Following the arrest, Lokayukta police have registered a case against Garwal under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
