Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi’s explosive allegations of vote rigging by the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections, urban development and housing minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday questioned the Congress leader’s mental state.
‘His mental balance should be checked. Even the Supreme Court once asked whether he is a true Indian or not. A person like him should die of shame,’ he told reporters.
The minister was responding to remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during the Congress’ ‘Vote Rights Rally’ held in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Gandhi had alleged that the BJP won the 2024 elections through electoral manipulation, claiming Prime Minister Narendra Modi retained power with a margin of just 25 seats — all allegedly won with less than 35k votes.
He demanded that the Election Commission release the full electronic voter list and 10 years of polling videography data, warning that failure to do so amounts to enabling ‘theft of democracy.’
Vijayvargiya, defending the EC, dismissed the allegations as baseless and dangerous. ‘It is a routine procedure for the EC to examine the voter list. Rahul Gandhi’s comments are not just false; they mock the democratic process,’ he said. ‘They are trying to shake the foundations of our democracy and defame constitutional institutions,’ he added.
On the international front, Vijayvargiya also addressed concerns about US tariffs on India during Donald Trump’s second term as President. He reaffirmed Modi’s commitment to national interests stating, ‘The PM has made it clear – we will neither bow down nor stop.
Decisions will be made for the country’s benefit and we will move our economy forward regardless of external pressure.’
