Jugaad Before Safety? Youths Rent Out Helmets Near Indore Petrol Pump After 'No Helmet, No Petrol' Rule-- VIDEO | FP Photo

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The district administration's ‘No Petrol, No Helmet’ rule has gone for a toss in Indore. Commuters were openly seen opting for a 'jugaad' to get their vehicle tanks refueled, but how?

A bizarre business has popped up outside the petrol pumps in the city. Some youths have started renting helmets to people who arrive without one, at the Bhatia Petrol Pump on the city's Aerodrome Road.

These youths stand outside the petrol pump and charge ₹10 to ₹20 to lend a helmet for just a few minutes. This is long enough for the rider to get petrol. After that, they take the helmet back and rent it out to the next customer.

The matter came to fore through a video which is going viral on social media on Saturday. The video clearly shows two youths standing at the corner of a petrol pump, where a man arrives and pays them for the helmet.

Jugaad before safety?

Notably, Indore administration had implemented a new traffic rule for people’s safety from August 1, 2025.

As per the district collector Asheesh Singh's order, petrol stations were directed not to provide fuel to anyone riding a two-wheeler without a helmet.

The rule was meant to promote road safety and avoid untimely deaths, however, some people are now using it as an easy-money business opportunity.
