Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In the 300th birth centenary year of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the state government has decided to carry out renovation and restoration of two iconic buildings of the city associated with the Holkar dynasty, at a cost of Rs 63 crore.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will perform bhoomi pujan of both the works on May 20. The state government is also considering declaring the Ahilya Kachhari (court) located in Kampel village as a protected site.
Disclosing this here on Monday, MP Shankar Lalwani said that he had submitted a proposal in this regard to CM Yadav a few days back. Now the proposals had been accepted.
The bhoomi pujan of the renovation and restoration of iconic Lalbagh and Rajwada was likely on May 20. More than Rs 50 crore had been approved for Lalbagh and Rs 13 crore for Rajwada. The chief minister had given his consent to this proposal, he said.

MP Lalwani has also urged the Chief Minister to declare the historic Ahilya Kachhari, located about 20 km away from the city in Kampel village, where Devi Ahilyabai Holkar started her rule, as a state protected monument by acquiring it. He demanded that its conservation should also be done under the tourism scheme.
Lalwani said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the chief minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on behalf of the people of the city for the sensitivity and commitment he has shown in preserving the heritage buildings of the city. These decisions will further strengthen the historical identity of the city.”
