Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Police busted a notorious gang indulging in vehicle lifting and arrested five people in connection with the same. About 34 two-wheeler vehicles worth Rs 22 lakh were seized from the accused.

Police said that they used to hide the stolen vehicles in abandoned or isolated places and sold them when they received demand from buyers.

DCP (zone-3) Hansraj Singh informed the media persons that the accused had learned how to steal vehicles from the Kanjar gang of Dewas district. After that they formed their own gang and they allegedly started stealing the vehicles from the different places in the city and Dewas.

Following the complaints of vehicle lifting, a team of Lasudia police station was formed to identify and to arrest the accused. The team worked on the instructions and managed to arrest five members of a vehicle theft gang following a tip-off. The accused were identified as Abhishek Singh Malviya, a resident of Piplarawa, Dewas, Kailash alias GoluMalviya of Manglia, Rahul Singh Chauhan, Anil Singh Pawar,

Jitendra alias Jenpal Sendhav, the residents of Sonkutch in Dewas district.

During questioning, the accused allegedly revealed they had learned vehicle theft techniques from the Kanjar community in Pipalrawan area. Their method was to cut the wires of a bike and start it directly. They would then hide the stolen bike for a few days in public parking areas or isolated places.

Abhishek is said to be the gang leader, while Rahul was responsible for tampering with chassis numbers. Jitendra collected bike orders from nearby villages. Police also recovered tools used for tampering engine and chassis numbers including gas lighters, grinders, hammers, metal dies, and a labeling machine. Three motorcycles were found with fake registration numbers already affixed.

How they committed the thefts

The accused allegedly informed the police that they used to roam in the areas carrying knives. After identifying a suitable bike, they would cut the wires and start it. Then, they’d hide the motorcycle in the public parking lots or abandoned buildings.

Once a customer placed an order, they would deliver the desired brand and color to him. They used to change the engine and chassis numbers, making the bikes untraceable in order to evade arrest.
