Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A wave of joy swept through the Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital in Indore following the Cabinet’s approval of a budget of ₹773 Crore for a new hospital facility.

To mark this occasion, the staff of MY Hospital and the MGM Medical College gathered at the hospital auditorium on Wednesday to pay a floral tribute to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Holkar, the visionary behind the original hospital.

Medical College Dean Dr Arvind Ghanghoria and Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav were present at a celebratory rally from the hospital premises to the new OPD building. Staff members danced and sang to express their happiness and raised slogans in honour of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Holkar.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ghanghoria expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani, Cabinet Minister Tulsi Silawat, and MLA Golu Shukla.

He credited their visionary leadership for making the dream of a new MY Hospital a reality and committed to working diligently to bring this vision to life as soon as possible.

In his tribute to Maharaja Holkar, Dr Ghanghoria recounted the rich history of MY Hospital. He shared that when Madhya Pradesh was still a part of Central India, plans were laid to build Asia’s largest hospital in Indore.

The foundation was set in 1948 after Maharaja Holkar reached out to the engineering firm, Maganlal Girdharilal Pvt Ltd, and brought in Russian architects due to a lack of expertise in India at the time. The construction began in 1948, it was completed by 1953, and the hospital was formally inaugurated on October 23, 1956.
