Indore: Man Duped Of ₹1.44 Lakh In Gas Agency Fraud, Scammer Threatened To Snap Gas Connection If Bill No Cleared | File
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A courier company operator was duped of Rs 1.44 lakh by a fraudster posing as a gas agency agent, police said on Sunday. The incident took place under Tilak Nagar police station limits.
According to the police, Bandu Sonar, a resident of Shri Mangal Nagar on Bicholi Hapsi Road lodged a complaint that he received an unknown call on December 6, 2024.
The fraudster threatened to snap the gas connection
The caller introduced himself as an agent from ‘Avantika Gas Service’ and claimed that there was a pending gas bill. The fraudster threatened to snap the gas connection if the bill was not cleared immediately.
To resolve the issue, the caller sent a link on WhatsApp and instructed Sonar to open it. On clicking the link, an application was downloaded on his phone. Soon after installing and running the app, a total of Rs 1,43,630.32 was deducted from his bank account.
Sonar realised he had been duped only after checking his account balance. He immediately contacted his bank and reported the incident to Tilak Nagar police. A case has been registered against the unknown caller and investigation is on.
