Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a step towards improving fire safety and disaster management, firefighters in the city will soon be equipped with light-fitted helmets, and walkie-talkies for better coordination at the time of crisis.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma at the Smart City Office on Wednesday. The meeting, which was attended by Additional Commissioners Rohit Sissoniya, Abhay Rajangaonkar and fire department officers, focused on enhancing firefighting resources and infrastructure.
The commissioner stressed on the need to equip firefighters with modern tools to improve coordination at fire sites and fill communication gaps. The new helmets and walkie-talkies will enable better synchronisation between firefighters and fire tenders.
Besides upgrading equipment, Verma also directed officials to assess the need for new fire stations and sub-stations across the city.
The city currently has five fire stations and seven more fire stations or sub-stations are proposed at key locations such as Scheme No 78, ISBT, Star Square, Ujjain Road, Nemawar Road, Bak Dhar Road, and one more location which is yet to be decided by the Indore Development Authority.
The new stations will be designed as modern, fully equipped model fire stations with necessary facilities for firefighters, including rest quarters.
