Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) executive council approved Rs 568 crore budget for fiscal 2025-26 with a deficit of record Rs 257 crore.
To bridge the gap, the university apex body also approved a hike of 10 per cent in more than 125 courses offered by teaching departments. This is the first hike in fee since 2019.
“The university plans to cover the deficit by introducing new departments and courses while also generating funds from other resources,” DAVV media coordinator Chandan Gupta said.
The executive council members suggested Vice Chancellor Prof Rakesh Singhai get the detailed project report (DPR) for proposed medical college in Jhabua made by senior professionals from medical field. They also asked if the university has funds to construct and subsequently run medical college.
Key allocations include:
- Rs 20 crore medical college in Jhabua
- Rs 20 crore for the revamp of Bafna Hostel
- Rs 40 crore for constructing a multi-storey building for teachers and officers.
- Rs 15 crore for employee housing projects.
- Rs 20 crore for university road construction.
- Rs 3 crore for a boundary wall to enhance security.
- Rs 2 crore for setting up an indoor games and gymnasium facility in hostels.
- Rs 50 lakh for establishing a new e-library.
Key Decisions and Announcements
- IET campus on Khandwa Road will be renamed as "Vikramshila Campus."
- A statue of Maa Ahilya will be installed on the IET campus.
- Doctoral entrance test (DET) will be conducted in June 2025.
- Center for Wellbeing to promote mental health initiatives to come up.
- Performing Arts Department will be established to offer courses in dance, music and related fields.
