Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a major crackdown under the ongoing traffic awareness campaign, Indore traffic police issued 510 challans in a single day for various violations aimed at promoting safer and smoother traffic flow across the city.

Among the violations, a whopping 150 challans were issued for vehicles without number plates or with fancy, unreadable ones. Wrong-side driving led to 65 fines, while 156 two-wheeler riders were caught without helmets.

Red light jumping saw 45 penalised, and other offences included triple riding, black films on car windows, speeding and mobile use while driving.

Adding a creative twist to enforcement, traffic police deployed comic characters Motu Patlu at Palasia Square to engage with commuters and emphasise the importance of wearing helmets in a fun, memorable way.

At Bada Ganpati crossing, inspector Deepak Yadav’s team targeted vehicles fitted with noisy modified silencers, imposing spot fines of Rs 1,000 each.

4 buses seized, 2 fined

In a parallel crackdown, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) joined hands with the traffic department to take action against six buses found parked haphazardly near busy city roads. Acting on collector Asheesh Singh’s directive, authorities seized four buses and slapped a fine of Rs 45,000 on two others.

The joint inspection was carried out at Pipliyahana Square, Ring Road and Teen Imli Square, where officials checked everything from permits, PUCs, insurance and tax documents to issues of overloading, overcharging and violation of permit norms
