Indira Imposed Emergency On India & Rahul Gandhi On Congress: Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi | ANI
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As the country observes 50th anniversary of Emergency, Rajya Sabha member and BJP national spokesperson Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi here on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Congress, calling Emergency imposed in 1975 "the darkest chapter in history of Indian democracy."
Speaking at an event organised by BJP at BCC, Dr Trivedi accused the Congress of authoritarianism, drawing historical parallels and targeting both past and present leadership of the party.
"On June 25, 1975, Indira Gandhi murdered India's democracy. This is a sad and tainted chapter of history that the younger generation must never forget," Dr Trivedi said.
He stated that while Indira Gandhi imposed an Emergency on the country, Rahul Gandhi invoked "emergency" within the Congress itself.
Trivedi alleged that today's Congress has no space for internal democracy. "Leaders who speak truth are not issued show-cause notices—they are expelled outright," he claimed.
He also criticised Congress leaders for comments that, he said, found their way into Pakistan's political discourse. "At a time of heightened India-Pakistan tensions, it was Rahul Gandhi’s statements that were echoed in the Pakistani Parliament and media," he stated.
"Pakistan used Rahul’s name in its dossier. Even the Pakistan Army didn’t use the word ‘surrender’ for Prime Minister Modi—but Rahul did," he said.
India Was Equated to a Leader
Trivedi recalled the infamous statement made during the Emergency: “India is Indira and Indira is India.” He compared it to fascist propaganda, saying, "This was the statement of then Congress president DK Barooah and the Congress has never apologised for it. In 1934, Hitler’s aide had shouted, ‘Germany is Hitler, Hitler is Germany.’ The parallel is chilling."
Trivedi concluded by criticising what he called the Congress’s selective respect for constitutional institutions. "When they win elections, the Election Commission is fair; when they lose, the Constitution is under threat. They tore up Union Cabinet decisions in press conferences. This is their real face behind the constitutional mask," he said.
