Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A decision to install rooftop solar systems at each and every house in 22 colonies across the city, under the ‘Har Ghar Solar’ initiative, was taken at a joint review meeting of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and the West Discom officials here on Friday.

As per the Mayor’s directives, one colony from each of the city’s 22 municipal zones will be selected and every house there will be equipped with solar panels to promote clean and renewable energy.

The meeting focused on power supply preparedness ahead of the monsoon, electricity cuts and implementation of various infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. Municipal commissioner Shivam Verma, West Discom managing director (MD) Anup Kumar Singh and other senior officials attended the meeting, which included a detailed review of pre-monsoon power maintenance.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav emphasised the importance of notifying residents in advance about planned power outages, especially considering the growing number of people working from home. He instructed officials to ensure minimal disruption in electricity supply during maintenance.

He also directed that the ongoing road construction from Annapurna to Sudama Nagar, being developed as a model road, should have all power lines laid underground to improve safety and aesthetics.

Other key points discussed in meeting

Repair and automation of over 6,000 streetlights reported to be operational during daytime.

Shifting of electric poles and transformers that obstruct traffic at several key intersections including Radha Palace Main Road, Dr Raja Ramanna Square, Pipliyahana Grid and Bicholi-Hapsi underpass.

Removal of loosely hanging wires from electric poles to prevent accidents and maintain the city’s visual appeal

Setting up secure fencing around transformers to improve safety and cleanliness
