Couple Leaps into Narmada River, Leaving Infant On Brigde In MP's Dhar |
Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): A shocking incident was reported in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, where a couple jumped into the Narmada river leaving their infant daughter on the bridge.
The incident happened on Monday night in Nisarpur area under Kukshi police station limits of Dhar district.
According to eyewitnesses, the couple arrived on foot after getting off a bus from Gujarat. Moments later, they left their baby on the bridge and leapt into the river. Locals immediately rescued the child and informed the administration. She was taken to Barwani Hospital for care.
CCTV footage from the area shows the father of the infant purchasing a water bottle from a nearby shop. He had a scarf around his neck while the mother and child waited outside.
Due to the strong currents of the Narmada, the search operation has been challenging. Divers and administrative teams began efforts late Monday night, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) joined the rescue mission on Tuesday morning. As of now, no trace of the couple has been found.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the couple taking such step. Authorities are also trying to contact their relatives to know the possible reasons behind the incident. The shocking event has left residents of the area deeply disturbed.
