The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several regions in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. Tamil Nadu's capital city woke up at 05: 44 AM and the sun is likely to set at 6: 37 PM. Today, the minimum and maximum temperature are likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, respectively. The humidity is expected to be around 65 per cent.

The Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) has issued rainfall in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Ghat areas of Tenkasi, Dindigul, Theni, Thoothukudi, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Sivaganga, Chengalpattu, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Kanniyakumari, Madurai, and Virudhunagar districts of Tamil Nadu.

The rainfall is likely due to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea. The weather department also stated that, apart from Tamil Nadu, rainfall is likely to occur in other states, including Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Parts of Rajasthan, Mizoram, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
