Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday in the state Assembly had accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting Bengali speaking people in BJP ruled states and terming them as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

During the question answer hour in the House, Mamata slammed BJP for terming Indians as Bangladeshi based on the language.

“On one side BJP is labelling Indians as Bangladeshis based on the language they speak and on the other hand they are taking away their basic rights to earn their livelihood in BJP ruled states of those who hold proper documents to prove they are from India. People should be speaking Bengali as proudly as one speaks Marathi and Gujarati. I know all these languages,” said Mamata.

Notably, on hearing this the BJP MLAs started chanting slogans against the Chief Minister but Mamata continued speaking about the alleged ‘step-motherly’ attitude of the central government.

“Bengal has topped road and rural housing project rankings five times in a row. Despite that the central government is not releasing the funds of Bengal. One side BJP deprives the poor people of Bengal and on the other side mishaps and deaths are happening in BJP ruled states,” further mentioned the West Bengal Chief Minister.

Without naming BJP state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar, Mamata also highlighted the recent controversy where a Sikh police officer was allegedly attacked by Majumdar.

The BJP MLAs however, had walked out of the House after Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay refused to bring an adjournment motion on ‘crisis in the education sector’ as demanded by the saffron camp legislatures.

Meanwhile, a BJP legislator was suspended from the Assembly for creating a ruckus.

Speaker Bandhopadhyay suspended BJP MLA Manoj Orao for breach of discipline and cautioned BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh for his behavior.

Talking to the media, Ghosh said, “We all knew that the House belonged to the Opposition but we are not allowed to even speak inside the House.”
