Weather Update: Heavy To Extremely Heavy Rainfall Is Anticipated In These States Of India; IMD Issues Red Alert

Delhi: As the monsoon advances towards northern India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall in various regions of India. According to the weather department, the southwest monsoon in India, which has already advanced in many parts, is bringing rainfall, and due to this, IMD has issued a red, and orange alert in numerous parts of India.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded at isolated places over Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka. Whereas, Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) has been recorded at isolated places over interior Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Konkan (coastal Maharashtra), Assam, Kerala, and South Interior Karnataka.

Red alert has been issued in these regions

According to the weather department, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in numerous regions of India. The IMD has issued a red alert in East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka. The rainfall is likely to be accompanied by squalls, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and lightning.

An orange alert has been issued in these regions

An orange alert has been issued in West Rajasthan, Gujarat, North Interior Karnataka, Kerala, East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram.

The Southwest Monsoon is a seasonal wind shift that brings heavy rainfall to South Asia, particularly India, from June to September. It is the monsoon period in India. The monsoon is characterised by a reversed wind pattern. During this time, winds usually blow from land to sea and from sea to land, bringing moisture and rainfall.

Weather forecast for the upcoming days

The weather department said that the advancing monsoon is anticipated to stay vigorous across extensive regions of northwest, central, and eastern India during this time. The IMD said that there is a high probability of above-normal rainfall in the upper Mahanadi catchment, which includes Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also predicted in parts of Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, and Gujarat.
