Bengaluru: A disturbing altercation during Karnataka’s ongoing Scheduled Caste (SC) survey reignited controversy, after a BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) staffer allegedly assaulted a house owner in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning (July 2).

The incident, which took place around 9:30 am, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media, receiving sharp criticism over the conduct of the survey personnel.

Have a look at the video here:

The homeowner, Nandeesh, claimed the BBMP worker pasted a caste survey sticker on his home without any prior discussion or data collection. When he questioned the procedure, the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation.

Homeowner Questions Procedure, Gets Pushed

According to Nandeesh, the civic worker arrived at his residence and directly pasted a sticker related to the caste survey, skipping the mandated interaction or verification step. Upon being questioned, the staffer allegedly turned violent and physically assaulted him.

The staffer, identified as Suresh, has denied initiating the assault. In a statement to given to The New Indian Express, he claimed the homeowner used abusive language and attempted to hit him first. “I pushed him in anger when he tried to hit me,” Suresh said.

Another Day, Another Sticker Row

This incident comes just a day after BBMP faced criticism for similar procedural lapses. A video surfaced earlier showing survey stickers being pasted on houses without engaging with residents, a breach that led to the suspension of three officials.

With caste data collection already a politically charged exercise in Karnataka, such incidents are amplifying concerns about the survey’s credibility and the preparedness of the ground staff. BBMP is yet to issue an official statement on the latest altercation.
