Dehradun: Heavy rains continue to lash Uttarakhand. On Monday, 11 August, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a three-hour rain alert for Dehradun. During this period, the city experienced intense rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding. Within just three hours, much of Dehradun was submerged, with rivers and streams overflowing.

A video from the scene shows around half a dozen cows being swept away in the overflowing stream. The footage captures the cows struggling to escape the fast-moving water, but the current was so strong that onlookers could do little more than watch helplessly.

Road Closures Across Uttarakhand Due to Heavy Rain

Heavy rainfall in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand has led to the closure of highways in several areas. In Rudraprayag district, the Jawadi Bypass Road has been blocked due to falling rocks from the mountains. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the road.

Similarly, the road near Bhatwadi Sain, close to Rudraprayag Tehsil, has also been blocked again, and work is ongoing to restore access. Meanwhile, the Badrinath Highway, which was temporarily closed near Bhanerpani in Chamoli district, has now been reopened.

No Relief Expected From Rain

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is currently no sign of relief from the ongoing rainfall. The IMD has predicted heavy rain across Uttarakhand for the next three days and has issued an official weather alert.

The department has advised residents and tourists to cancel any planned travel to the hills and to venture out only if absolutely necessary.
