Lucknow: In an unconventional protest during the Sawan month, a group of students from Gonda has embarked on a "Chhatra Kanwad Yatra" (Student Kanwad Pilgrimage), carrying holy Saryu river water, not for temples, but to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence in Lucknow.
Their unique pilgrimage, which will make an overnight stop near BBD University tonight, aims to draw attention to the soaring fees in private schools, which they claim have turned education into a business.
The students, led by activists from the Rashtriya Chhatra Panchayat, began their journey on Thursday from Gandhi Park in Gonda after performing traditional prayers.
Upon reaching the Chief Minister's residence, they will symbolically offer the sacred water to CM Yogi Adityanath, urging him to enact a fee control law.
Shivam Pandey, National President of the Rashtriya Chhatra Panchayat, stated that despite six months of continuous protests against the arbitrary fee collection by private schools, the government has remained silent.
