Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to introduce e-courts to fast-track the resolution of labour related disputes, in a move seen as part of broader reforms to modernize the state’s industrial and labour governance.
Under the new framework led by the Labour Department, priority is being given to digital inspections, transparency, and the timely settlement of disputes concerning gratuity, minimum wages, maternity benefits, and compensation.
E-courts are expected to reduce backlog and ensure quicker verdicts while promoting fairness. To curb harassment and improve accountability, the government has mandated prior approval for inspections and made joint inspection norms stricter. Reports must be filed on the official portal within 48 hours, and employers notified in advance.
Self-certifying firms will face fewer checks, while newly registered units will be exempt from inspections in their first year. Labour Commissioner approval is required for all inspections, and randomized selection aims to eliminate bias.
These changes are aligned with the state’s 2017 labour policy, which prioritizes investor confidence and worker welfare in equal measure. Authorities are also enforcing 100% compliance with labour court decisions.
