Lucknow: On a mission to green Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a statewide plantation campaign from Ayodhya’s sacred Triveni Vatika on the banks of River Saryu on Wednesday. He planted banyan, neem, and peepal saplings as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

Addressing a public gathering in Rampur Halwara, the CM described the campaign as a spiritual and environmental responsibility. He asserted, “We’ve turned heatwaves into green waves.” With 204 crore saplings already planted over the past eight years and a 75% survival rate, the forest cover of the state has increased by 5 lakh acres.

Yogi quoted scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose to reinforce the life and significance of trees, calling them natural warriors against pollution, carbon emissions, and respiratory illnesses. The CM described the campaign as a tribute to both Mother Earth and all mothers.

He credited PM Narendra Modi’s leadership for supporting eco-initiatives like replacing chulhas with LPG and banning single use plastics. “Environmental conservation and sustainable development must go together,” he stressed, citing climate change as a global emergency caused by unplanned growth. He referred to recent flash floods in Texas as an example of unchecked environmental degradation.

Yogi highlighted that when this campaign began, UP had only 5 crore saplings. Now, with support from the forest department, MGNREGA, and private partners, 52 crore saplings are ready for planting. He proudly noted that farmers are receiving 500 rs per tree under carbon financing, and over ₹42 lakh in credits will be distributed this year.

Farmers who contributed to sapling care were honored at the event. CM Yogi reiterated his commitment to Ayodhya’s revival, celebrating its emergence as a solar city, its international airport project, and forest creation using the Miyawaki method. He declared, “This campaign will elevate Ayodhya’s global standing.” The event witnessed participation from ministers, MLAs, and citizens. The drive will continue statewide until 7 PM.

Governor’s message "Plant Trees on Birthdays"

Governor Anandiben Patel urged citizens to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries by planting trees at Anganwadi centers and government schools. Launching the plantation drive from Barabanki, she said it’s time to build environmental values in children. “Saving the planet is saving ourselves,” she said, while honoring staff and children with sweets and gifts.

Akhilesh Questions Yogi’s

Plantation Claims

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of making plantation drives into publicity stunts. “If 1.3 lakh trees fit in 1,000 acres, where is the land for 200 crore?” he asked. He claimed the trees near Raj Bhavan were planted during SP rule and mocked BJP’s efforts as imitation of past projects.
