UP Traffic Cop Caught On Camera Stealing From Garment Shop In Meerut; Suspended (VIDEO)

Meerut: In a major embarrassment for Uttar Pradesh police, a traffic sub-inspector (TSI) was caught on camera stealing three to four bags from a readymade garment shop in Meerut. CCTV footage, dated June 10, shows the policeman sliding away three to four bags of garments from the counter table when the staff is busy working.

The matter came to light when the shopkeeper could not find the bags and checked the CCTV footage and found out the truth.

The shopkeeper handed over the CCTV footage of the theft incident to the police and demanded action. After which, the SSP took immediate cognisance and suspended the accused inspector and ordered a probe into the matter.

“The law is equal for everyone. Action will be taken in this case after conducting an impartial investigation,” the SSP was qouted saying by local media.

The cop in question has been identified as Sumit Vashishth. Vashisth was posted in Meerut Traffic Police. At present, he has been sent to the line and a departmental probe has begun.

According to the shop owner, when he confronted Sumit regarding the theft, he denied it. But when the CCTV footage was shown to him, he was agitated and decided to take revenge on the shop owner and started issuing arbitarily issuing challans to the customers visiting the shop while threatening them.
